Simon Bolidrag

mixed media intervention

Intervened on a classic drawing of Venezuela's revered hero, Simón Bolívar, this artwork endeavors to challenge and subvert the narrative imposed by the dictatorial government, which seeks to shape the perception of society. Through reinterpretation, the piece presents an alternative portrayal of the so-called hero, diverging from the widely accepted depiction.

The makeup, made with acrylic paint and artificial eyelashes, uses this design to serve a specific purpose: to symbolically represent and empower the LGBTQ+ community, which endures ongoing oppression within Venezuelan society.

The laurel leaves on the uniform are intervened with embroidery, adding texture to the piece. This intervention challenges the traditional gender stereotypes and uses Bolívar as a way to promote inclusivity and start conversations about the LGBTQ+ community in Venezuela.
