Echoes in Motion
Multimedia exhibit / Interaction Design
Echoes in Motion is a reinterpretation of Calder’s Floating Clouds, located in the Aula Magna of the University City of Caracas in Venezuela., inspired by his exploration of movement, sound, and abstraction.
The project reinterprets and inverts Calder’s Floating Clouds, originally designed to amplify human sound. In Echoes in Motion the roles are reversed: the clouds transform from passive listeners into active participants, answering to people’s presence with sounds of nature, creating an immersive experience for the participant.
This project was developed as part of the Master’s in Visual and Innovation Design, for the Multimedia Exhibit and Interaction Design course.

The project goes back to the original shape of Calder’s clouds, each one of them with an ultrasonic distance sensor that perceives people’s presence from the heights. At the same time, the whole circuit connects to a TouchDesigner file, which when triggered by movement activates sound and visuals to accompany the visitor.
